Co-Working for Independents

From January 2019, each Thursday we will be opening up our Tudor lodge to become a co-working space, not for profit.

A space where you can bring your laptop and notebook and work with others. As a creative, a freelancer or someone running an independent business you will spend a lot of time working on your own. Our co-working Thursdays are for all those individuals that would like a little company while they work, plus to have the opportunity to share their ideas, or seek collaboration opportunities.

We hope that by bringing like-minded people together who experience common ground in business, there will be an opportunity for mentoring, skill swapping and just general chit-chat, plus even some new friendships may be formed too.

We will also aim to run short business workshops and talks on the 3rd Thursday of each month. We will shortly advertise the topics we intend to cover over the coming months.

Stay for as long or as little as you would like. We will have an honesty box for teas and coffees and cake (when I have had time to bake, but if not we have some gorgeous independent establishments close by, such as Thyme for Tea and Godalming Deli).

Places are limited to 12 people at any one time, so we would ask that you reserve your place here. However, if you do forget to reserve, just pop along and hopefully we can find a spare seat.

To reserve a free place, please submit form below using the ‘reserve a place’ button.

Sketch Club

to 8 Feb

Sketch Club

We have finally convinced the brilliant Hilary Macdonald, a local artist to run a sketch course here at Wattle & Daub.

This 5-week sketching course will introduce you to the joys of drawing with a pencil. Through a series of projects, you will learn to gain confidence to make beautiful pencil lines, understand tone and how to use different shading techniques, conquer perspective and draw a convincing tree. This course is suitable for all levels from beginners to the more experienced. There will be something to be gained for everyone.

Hilary Macdonald is a working artist who lives in Surrey. Hilary trained as a fine art painter at Falmouth School of Art in Cornwall and continues to sketch, paint and teach. She has been teaching for over 30 years and taught all levels and media to adults from local adult education, private classes and the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham. Hilary is never without her sketchpad. Some of you may know her from our dog portrait days - in just one day she sketched 11 dogs at Wattle & Daub. You can see her work at www.hilarymacdonald.net

This 5-week course will run on Friday mornings, between 10:00 am and 12 midday at Wattle & Daub, starting on 11th January and ending on 8th February.

The class will be intentionally small to ensure adequate support. However, please note a minimum number of students will be required to go ahead with this course.

All you will need is an A4 drawing pad, a couple of pencils - aB and 2B and a rubber.

Total charge for the course will be £60 (£12 per session).

To book, please email Wattle & Daub

Mood Board Workshop,
Jan
24
7:30 pm19:30

Mood Board Workshop,

Do you have an interior project you are struggling with at home or just wondered how to create a mood board from scratch?

Join us for a fun evening at Wattle & Daub, creating mood boards, chatting interiors with like-minded peeps and eating cake.  When setting out on an interior project, bringing your ideas to life via a mood board is a crucial part of the design process.  We will help you bring together your ideas to create a cohesive scheme, achieved by layering images of furniture, paint cards, fabric samples and magazine cuttings.  By carrying out this fun process in a workshop environment with fellow attendees, you also get to share ideas and be inspired in a supportive group.  We will not ask you to follow trends, but instead encourage you to find your own style.   If you love chatting about interiors, design and colour and enjoy getting creative whilst eating cake this workshop is for you.

The workshop will be run by Gemma Lewis, Owner of Wattle & Daub and Karen McBain, Interior Designer & Stylist.

Price includes prosecco, tea, coffee etc, plus all materials.  If you have colour charts, fabric samples, you would like to bring with you, please do feel free to bring along to the workshop.

Digital Detox with Emily Hodge - May, 3rd - £29

There's no denying we're spending more time online than ever before. With every device set up to keep us hooked and many of our connections found, developed and kept by being online it's no wonder.

But what impact is it having behind the screens on how we feel about ourselves, what time we're spending or wasting by being online and how can we change habits we don't realise we've acquired?

Join this interactive workshop to understand the key steps you can take to go from feeling overwhelmed, over stimulated and over it, to refreshed, lighter and more efficient with your digital use.

The key message from this workshop isn't about getting offline, although that is a part of it.

I'll help you understand the habits you might have fallen into that aren't serving you (mind, body and soul), teach you ways to enjoy being online more when you use it and help you figure out your goals and aims for both your on and offline lives to be more fulfilled overall.

Big claims and a wonderful evening to boot.

This workshop is for you if:

- You feel anxious if you don't have your phone on or near you

- You feel you're spending too much time scrolling on social media

- Social media accounts are triggering you and causing you emotional difficulties beyond just a few moments

- You feel over stimulated or like you're wasting too much time online

- You feel you need to be online a lot (it's your work, it pays the bills, it helps you connect etc)

- You want to change your online habits

- You want to free up time to plan and spend it on things you really want to get done this year

Workshop price includes a 15 minute review call with me up to 4 weeks after the session.
